LIGHTS Acoustic Tour 2016 // Vogue Theatre

May 14, 2016 - An Intimate Evening with LIGHTS

At the Vogue Theatre, a sold out and packed audience welcomed LIGHTS for her last show of her latest acoustic tour, in support of the release of Midnight Machines.

LIGHTS’ main studio releases are known for their heavily-produced, upbeat, synth-pop radio-friendly songs that often have her in music collections featuring Ellie Goulding, Owl City and PVRIS.  Midnight Machines, released in April of this year contains six reconstructed and reinterpreted tracks from 2014’s Little Machines and featured two brand new tracks.  Being stripped of the keytars and synthesizers and replaced with a string trio, it’s the after-party chill when compared to Little Machines’ dance-party – a refreshing contrast and smooth transition.

The eighteen song setlist included hits from the beginning of her career ten years ago to her most recent releases.  Fans knew every word from her older hits such as “Saviour” to recent tracks including “Up We Go” and “Running with the Boys.”  Making sure her glass of wine was always filled, she loosened up with the audience telling stories of moving to Vancouver from Drake-dominated Toronto and of nudists out in New Mexico while filming her latest music video for “Meteorites.”

Despite being a lot more relaxed compared to her usual performances, fans were encouraged to “rock her tits off” before “pulling through like a badass” as a fan who had followed her for every tour date of this tour belted at her to perform her first single “Saviour.”  And LIGHTS delivered to the crowd’s roaring and applause.

LIGHTS’ live performance blew her studio recordings out of the water, fully illustrating her vocal range toward the end of the set with “Toes” and “Banner” before coming back for an encore and fan-favourite “Muscle Memory.”

(My apologies for the lackluster photoset - soundboard shoot!)
