FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHERE CAN WE FIND PRINTS OF YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS?

You can find them here! Message me if there is a piece that you are looking for in particular that isn't listed.

CAN WE SHARE YOUR WORK?

Sharing is caring!  I do request that you do input my name, a link to my website: www.timothynguyenphoto.com and to my Facebook Page.  However you cannot use my photos without my permission in any publication. If you want permission, please use the contact page or email.

WHERE DO YOU FIND YOUR INSPIRATION?

A vague answer but from anything and anywhere.  As someone once said, a good artist copies but a great artist steals.  I'll draw from mythology to the human condition; from popular culture to historical events. Really, anything that could look cool in an image.

Photographer wise, I'm currently intrigued by: Sam Kaczur, Conor McdonnellRyan Doco Connors, Robert Cornelius, Miss Aniela, Julia Trotti, Todd Owyoung, Aaron Nace, Brandon Cawood, Peter Coulson, Julia Kuzmenko McKimKindra Nicole.  Bigger names include: Steve McCurry & Annie Leibovitz.

WHAT KIND OF CAMERA EQUIPMENT DO YOU HAVE?

I currently have four cameras: Nikon D750 (main), Nikon D700 (current backup), Nikon D610 (currently in pieces), and Nikon J1.

My current lens lineup consists of the following:

Other accessories

I also use a Manfrotto 055 tripod & ball head. All packed in a National Geographic A5290 Medium backpack.

WHAT KIND OF POST PROCESSING SOFTWARE DO YOU USE?

I mainly edit my photographs with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 6 & Photoshop CC 2015.

COMPUTER & DISPLAYS

I currently am building a new PC rig (I do find that they have more bang for the buck compared to Mac) which will be uploaded when completed.  Currently I am using a 17" ASUS laptop with an i7 and 8GB of RAM.  I also use a Wacom Tablet for post-production.

DID YOU STUDY PHOTOGRAPHY AND HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PHOTOGRAPHING?

I originally taught photography to myself for almost three years using online resources such as Phlearn, PhotographyLifeDigital Photography School & F-Stoppers. I am part of the graduating class of 2015 for Professional Photography at Langara College.  Although I don't feel that school is necessary to become a successful photographer, it definitely helped fine-tune and offered services such as open critique, networking and business essentials that were more hands-on than what you might be offered onscreen.

DO YOU HAVE ADVICE FOR OTHER STARTING PHOTOGRAPHERS?

Embrace failure and learn from it.  Strive to succeed and you will eventually find a style to your work (hell, I'm constantly struggling to find myself too!)  Don't fall for gear envy as I did, great images are made from great ideas, not the best gear.  I'm still working everyday to become a stronger photographer/illustrator.  Always shoot for yourself every once in a while when work starts to overtake the love of your craft.  Malcolm Gladwell states that it takes 10,000 hours to become a master of your craft, so keep grinding!

WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

Vancouver, BC.

ARE YOU SEARCHING FOR ASSISTANT OR TRAINEE?

I am currently not looking but am willing to offer my knowledge for a price!

DO YOU HAVE UPCOMING EXHIBITIONS?

I will keep any upcoming shows, events or exhibitions on my blog.
